When I think about Rishikesh, I don’t just remember the places—I remember the feeling. The fresh mountain air, the sound of the Ganga, the way time seemed to slow down. It’s one of those rare places where my whole family—kids, parents and even grandparents could enjoy together without anyone feeling left out.
Here’s how our trip turned into one of the most beautiful family memories we’ve ever made.
CaMping IN Rishikesh

Rishikesh is a wonderland for nature enthusiasts, especially families who want to darken the screen and reconnect with the beauty of the outdoors. One of the most beloved experiences is family camping on and by the river. Many safe, organized camps located near Shivpuri, Byasi, and Mohan Chatti provide tents to sleep in, food that you can actually eat, a bonfire to gather around, and many fun adventures like: star gazing, light trekking, and nature games or activities for kids.We did camping as it was my first experince me and my family enjoyed a lot. Parents can relax alongside the river and enjoy the stillness while kids enjoy the adventure of nature under supervision.
Walking Across the Famous Bridges
One afternoon, we decided to cross Lakshman Jhula. Halfway across, I stopped just to take in the view—the Ganga sparkling below, the hills standing tall all around us, and the colorful temples dotting the banks. Monkeys hopped along the railings like they owned the place (and honestly, I think they do). On the other side, we found tiny shops selling handmade jewelry, scarves, and even fresh lemon soda.
Small Adventures That Made Big Memories
We didn’t go for crazy adrenaline activities, but Rishikesh still gave us plenty of adventure.
One day, we tried a short river rafting trip. It was gentle enough for the kids but still had those fun little splashes that made everyone laugh. Another day, we hiked to Neer Garh Waterfall. The walk was green and peaceful, and when we reached the waterfall, the kids kicked off their shoes and waded in while we sat on rocks, letting the cool mist hit our faces.
A Bit of Yoga by the River
I’m not a yoga expert, but in Rishikesh, it felt natural to try. One morning, we joined a simple yoga class on the riverbank. Stretching in the fresh air, listening to the water flow, I felt more relaxed than I had in months. The kids mostly giggled through it, but even they admitted it was “kind of nice.”
Enjoying Food in Rishikesh
One of my favorite parts? The food. Mornings started with hot parathas and curd. Evenings meant crispy pakoras with steaming chai while we watched the river. We found a street stall selling momos so good that we went back twice in one day. Everything was vegetarian, fresh, and full of flavor.
Travelling Together, the Fun Way
Since we were traveling as a big group, we booked a Tempo Traveller on rent. Best decision ever. We all sat together, passed snacks around, told stories, and played guessing games while the hills and river rolled past the windows. It was not just the destination—the journey itself became a memory.
Ending the Day with Ganga Aarti
Every evening we made our way to Triveni Ghat. As the sun set, priests lit lamps and chants filled the air. Watching hundreds of little diyas float away on the river made me feel calm in a way I can’t explain. We stood there together, my arm around my kids, thinking—this is exactly where I want to be.
Wraping Up
We went to Rishikesh for a trip, but we came back with something more—peace, laughter, and a reminder that sometimes the best thing you can do is just be together in nature. If you ever get the chance to go on a Rishikesh Family trip, do not let it slip. Let the river welcome you, the hills protect you, and the town slow you down.
